of the Opeongo Seniors Centre

The Opeongo Seniors Centre was formed in August 1974 as a drop-in centre and meeting place for seniors in Barry’s Bay and surrounding area. The original name was “Opeongo Trailblazers Club” and activities took place in the old Barry's Bay railway station.

When the original location became unusable, the club took on the task of erecting a brand-new building. The new centre at 19 Stafford Street was officially opened in September 1991.

The quilt shown here was made to commemmorate the building of the new centre, and occupies a place of honour in the hall. It begins with the old location in the former railway station, and the site of the new building near Barry's Bay's renowned wooden water tower.
